Release of lipopolysaccharide in Escherichia coli resistant to the permeability increase induced by ethylenediaminetetraacetate.

چکیده
Mutants of Escherichia coti that fail to show the characteristic increase in permeability induced by brief treatment with ethylenediaminetetraacetate have been isolated. They were examined to see whether they release lipopolysaccharide as expected during such a treatment. Mutants derived from two strains released only 20 to 40% less lipopolysaccharide than their parents, but further analysis of one mutant and its parent showed that this represented reduction of a specific lipopolysaccharide fraction. Both organisms released two lipopolysaccharide components differing in sedimentation rate in sucrose density gradients, but while both released similar amounts of the faster moving component, the mutant released only about one-third as much of the slower moving component. These results suggest that release of the slower component may be required for the permeability increase induced by EDTA.

Physical, chemical, and immunological properties of lipopolysaccharide released from Escherichia coli by ethylenediaminetetraacetate.
When Escherichia coli Olll:B4 is exposed briefly to ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) it releases 30 to 50% of its lipopolysaccharide, determined not only by measuring percentage release of colitose, a sugar unique to this polymer, but also by measuring the amount of phenol-extractable lipopolysaccharide remaining with the cell. The fraction released cannot be significantly increased above 50%...

The present study investigated the effects of E. coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced mastitis model in rat on the activity of antioxidant enzyme systems. To achieve this purpose, E. coli LPS were infused into the mammary gland of 12 rats 72 hr postpartum and compared with 12 rats in control group infused intramammary placebo sterile pyrogene – free, physiological saline. The...
متن کاملThe effect of omega- 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on endothelial tight junction occludin expression in rat aorta during lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation
Objective(s): Occludin is essential for proper assembly of tight junctions (TJs) which regulate paracellular endothelial permeability. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (Ω-3 PUFA) protect endothelial barrier function against injury. Materials and Methods: We examined anti-inflammatory effect of Ω-3 PUFA intake (30 mg/kg/day for 10 days) on expression and location of occludin in the aorta of ...
